How do I erase parts of the interior
of a design for a cutter (thin parts
that would not produce a good cut).
Essentially I just want the outline only.
I tried the erase tool in Cadit in editing
and it didn’t respond as one would normally expect that tool to do.

Could you perhaps share the image / cutter in question?
What does not work well with the erase tool? Perhaps add some screenshots if you’d like, that could make it more clear what the issue is exactly.

Change it to cookie cutter and adjust the size to what you need.
